a friendly, playful manager gentleman in my last workshop, just dissheveled enough in a pseudo-tux uniform to be hot, asked me to dinner in his restaurant this evening.

b., i just started casually dating some dude,
and
c. yikes!

Corporate Janey! You're on the job!
Ah, I say do it. Doesn't every girl need to date a Southern gentlemen at least once? Did I hear that on Lifetime?
Or wait, how about this? Go, but pretend you're a Southern belle just off the plantation. Use words like genteel and then have a mint julep on the veranda when you get a case of the vapors! Yeah, southern stereotypes!
oh timbo, i didn't go, but i will see him later tonight because i have to go back over at 4am (really, midnight) for another workshop.
he already heard me talk (i was his instructor), but maybe i could say that i was faking my yankee accent.
hot for teacher, indeed.
I would have said "Go!" but it looks like you already opted not to. So, for next time, here's my advice, complete with a large grain of salt: Go! Hey, it could be a good time, and if it isn't, there's always a chance it will be so terrible that it will make a good story later.
eileen, you're right. i probably should've gone, just for the story, but knew i couldn't getwitdat anyway, because i have a workshop to teach in two hours anyway.
maybe that was a good reason to go.
as if i'm always gettin'wit'dat.
